Likes a lot of gnomies, I'm back from Guadec5 ; I had to wake up at 4:30 this morning to take my flight and sun light was like midday. I better understand how these norway dudes can stay up that late (or early) :)
This year, Guadec was great, even if food and beer were quite expensive there (photos here). I think my best memory will be a huge fish soup shared with Luis and Dave Coombs (from Net Integration)...

Turkey, Monitor and Linux
Holidays
I'm back from a great 12 day tour in Turkey (with visit of Istanbul and Capadocia, among other things). I did more than 400 photos but I haven't finished triaging all of them (and it will be hard to delete some from Capadocia).
Monitor
Last month, my LCD monitor started again to act strangely like 4 months ago, so I decided to send it back for repair, just before leaving for Turkey. And happily, I received a new one this morning (I came back from Turkey yesterday) so I only had to use my TV screen as a monitor for three days (and trust me, using 800x600 with 20 pixel font with a somehow blurry screen is not nice at all).
Linux in random shop (follow-up)
I went back to my local optician this afternoon (they still didn't received my new contact lenses :( and I asked about the KDE system I saw last time I went there. So, they are really running Linux, are quite happy with it (but not with the proprietary application they use to connect to their store managing system) and this system is used in about 12 shops which are owned by the same company (this is not a requirement from their franchise, called Afflelou).

Linux in random shop
Tonight, I went to my local optician to see if they had received my contact lenses. While I was waiting, I noticed a strange screensaver on one of the LCD screen : it was the X logo. Then, just before leaving (they didn't received my order), I discovered another screen which was running and I saw KDE kicker on it (they seems to be running some emulation text software under X11 for their own store management). I couldn't ask them if they were running Linux (I'll ask when I go back next time) but it feels good to see Linux and KDE (nobody is perfect :)

Ximian Connector GPL
Wohoo, congrats to Ximian/Novell for releasing Connector to GPL. With some help of Evolution hackers, I packaged version 1.4.7 of the connector for Mdk 10.0 and I uploaded it on Mandrakeclub (I don't know how long it will take to be available on the server). I've started working on the cooker version (for Evolution 1.5.7) but it seems some files are missing on CVS. I'll double-check tomorrow..

Linux in Public Library : GNOME powered
I've just read this article and it seems these guys have made their custom distro and used GNOME !! It would have been nice to have their input when lockdown was done for 2.6 since, according to the story, they had to do the lockdown themselves. I hope they'll be able to switch to GNOME 2.6 easily and to have their lockdown requirements filled with 2.6.

Paris, 30 years ago
I discovered this photoblog today (thanks to Garoo) from Paris, 30 years ago (I wasn't even born :). This is quite of strange : I live in Paris for only 5 years now and you could almost think these photos were taken last weekend (if you don't look too closely at the cars). As the song says "Paris will always be Paris".
